Zonation of quality of drinking water sources is necessary for Water Management in Arid and Hyper Arid areas. In this research, spatial variations of quality characteristics of water (EC, Na, K, Mg, Ca, NO3, SO4, Alkalinity, Cl, TH and TDS were investigated in one-year period (2015-2016) based on the data collected from 55 drinking deep wells of Yazd Plain. In order to evaluate and select the best method of interpolation was used Simple kriging, Ordinary kriging and Inverse Distance Weighted and RMSE. Zoning maps showed that groundwater of Charkhab and Yazdgerd respectively are in the Southeast and Northwest of study area, which are affected by flow of the Mehriz and Taft river, that are higher quality than the middle part of study area. The changes in the main indicators of quality such as TDS are from less than 500 to more than 2500 mg/lit and EC from less than 700 to more than 3,500 micromhos/cm that this achievement reflects the need for utilization management and preparation of drinking water with best quality to enter the network. Also the wells in the center of study area such as 16 Silo, 12 Dehno, 13 Dehno and 24 Dehno in terms of quality parameters such as TDS, TH, EC and Cl have more than double the national standard limit, that is recommended to remove them or adjustment operation of wells in drinking water network.

Study of geological units is one of the basic studies in many different sciences such as natural resources. The use of geological maps produced by geological survey is now the basic of geological studies in detailed-operating and investigative studies of natural resources. On the other hand, during the last years, remote sensing technology has been introduced as a new and efficient tool for geological studies that in addition to proper precision, it has other benefits such as accessibility to impassable or inaccessible mountainous regions. In this study, comparing the accuracy of existing geological and remote sensing maps of Vartavan catchment of Qazvin province has been the object of the study which was evaluated with the ground realities. So first, maps of geological survey were examined. Then, various image processing techniques including False Color Composite (FCC), Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Optimum Index Factor (OIF) and Band Ratio (BR) were used to enhance different lithological units and finally, RS lithology map of the catchment was prepared. Considering the variety of rocks and formations of the study area, the FCC and OIF techniques have respectively the most capabilities for differentiation of the rocks. Kappa coefficient of 0.39 between the two maps indicates low agreement between them. Checking the accuracy of maps based on the ground realities showed that photo-lithological map is more accurate (97.1%) compared to geological map (52.5%).

Mulching is one of the methods of sand movement control to prepare condition for permanent fixation. Oil mulches have been used in Iran. Because of high cost and negative environmental impacts of oil mulches, changes in mulches type and mulching methods is vital. Therefore, for the first time in Iran, different combinations of cement and lime were examined as stabilizer. Sandy soil from the Yazd-Ardakan plain is used as bed treatment and Portland cement were used as the mulch in this research. The treatments were prepared using different ratios of the above mentioned materials. One liter of water was added to each mulch combinations and were sprinkled on the plot of 100 cm (length) × 30 cm (width) ×4 cm (height) sands. A completely randomized design is used as research plan with three repeating. Physical parameters, such as thickness, compressive strength, which are created by mulches, and wind erodibility of the treatments were measured. The measured data were analyzed using SPSS statistical software. Results show that by increasing the amount of cement, soil crust resistance increases. The combination mulch of cement 400 gr, sand 800 gr, and lime 10 gr is selected as the best treatment, because it can be prepare optimum physical conditions for sand dune fixation. In addition, the cost of field cement mulching estimated 30% lower than oil mulching.

The morphology of a river system is affected by dominant watershed processes includingclimatic, hydrologic, hydraulic, erosion and sedimentation, geological and topographicalcharacteristics of the river environment and watershed. Understanding the interaction betweenthe river form and dominant watershed processes in river systems is necessary for recognitionof river behavior and of importance for developing river environments conceptual models. In this research the aim was to evaluate morphological characteristics caused by dominantwatershed processes in the Firoozeh-shahjoob river of north Khorasan and extract equations inorder to mathematically link between the river physical features and watershed processes. Forthis purpose, the HEC-RAS hydraulic model after doing sensitivity analysis and calibrationprocess was used to simulate the relation between dominant watershed processes and riverphysical factors for 37 reaches of this river. Considering the standard error, level of confidenceand coefficient of determination, compared to simple linear models, second order (quadratic)and third order (cubic) models, exponential models were the most suitable ones to extract themathematical relation between geometrical characteristics and the related dominant processesin this river system.
