One of the conventional methods in identifying issues or making decisions in communities is considering the views of individuals of the community. The aim of this research is to determine the effective determinants of rangeland performance according to the views of range manager community in winter pastures of the Semnan province. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) as a multi-criteria/quantitative approach was employed for this research. Firstly, determinants of rangeland performance were grouped into human (economic and social) and natural (topographic conditions, climatology, geology and soils) criteria. Then, the major sub-criteria were identified based on interviews, existing experiences and literature review. Pairwise Comparison of all identified criteria and sub-criteria were conducted based on semi-structured questionnaire and interviews with 30 range managers. Finally, analysis of questionnaires was carried out using AHP method within Expert choice software. According to results, season, precipitation and private ownership seem to be the most important factors, respectively. However, research community had more disagreements regarding the natural criteria compared to human ones.

Since last decades, there has been a growing interest in the human/social dimensions of natural resources governance especially the structure of social networks in achieving to successful co-management of natural resources. Network analysis as a suitable tool in optimum planning of the “network management” of rangeland in regional scale, can improve inter-organizational decision-making and coordination among key actors. Trust development and mutual relations among various actors is a key factor in policy of rangeland co-management issue. In this study, trust and collaboration networks between informal and formal institutions and rangeland users in co-management process have been investigated. Social network analysis as a quantitative method has been implicated in this research. The results of this study indicate that “Veterinary Office of Taleghan” and “Village Council” can play a key role in policy and planning of rangeland co-management which is related to higher density of trust and collaboration ties. Moreover, trust and collaboration networks among the Veterinary Office and rangeland users have more sustainability than these in related to other institutions. However, the sustainability of networks among all of institutions and rangeland users has low level. Statistical results show there is a high correlation (70%) between trust and collaboration networks and also 50% of collaboration changes are related to trust factor. Also, it can be state that lack of trust and collaboration between the Natural Resources Office and rangeland users is a key challenge for initiating of rangeland co-management. Finally, social network analysis helps manager and planner in detecting of the challenges of rangeland co-management and policy in tune with solving these challenges.

Yazd province because of cultural and historical background of the distant past always had known as ambitious and hard-working people. Manifesting multiple efforts of these people is seen in water harvesting. In Yazd province, background issues such as evaluation and assessment of water, ownership and agricultural water share refers to the distant past which has been changes over time in type and form. The purpose of this article, meanwhile a short review of management method and operation of water with a focus on Mirab, the evolution of ownership, irrigation circuit changes over time and changes in water price has been paid. Research methodology is single-type reticulum (monographic). Location research has been Chrkhab village of Yazd. Irrigation cycle of village has changed in four stages to the final cycle of water from 16 days to 21 days and 20 hours has become at present. Now, 53 Owner of the well are operating. In this study, according to the classification made, those of their right of water irrigation period were less than one hour (small landowners). This group, forming the highest frequency, equivalent of 33/6 percent was. According to the results, in extent of water right distribution between owners and various whiskers, the owners try to allocate more shares for them in order to play higher roles in the rural society. Study of the current water price changes for fifty years shows, the price of general inflation society has not follow. In this review the current water price increase rate (growth rate), 0/12 percent obtained.

Nowadays, population growth and on the other hand resources limitations astonish authorities. Population changes cause variation in economic activities and land use changes. As a whole, overusing, improper land use and human disturbances over natural resources make environmental imbalances worse. In recent decades, we have seen land use changes in Taleghan basin. Land use changes were produced by many factors, e.g. in abandoned lands, some parts of the region have been converted to residential areas and constructions. Since one century before, because of vicinity to population centers like Tehran and upland condition, this region has been a suitable place for recreation of travelers. Also one of the most important factors has been changed in population which has occurred in Taleghan. So that the statistical information shows substantial decrease in villages population in Taleghan. Similar to the, other regions in Iran, landuse changes especially in rangelands, is an important subject in Taleghan too. This paper tries to illustrate the relationship between population and land use changes in the given region of study and to detect the land use changes in a 15-year period. For determining the landuse, we used geographic information system and statistical methods, remote sensing also landSat images for 1987 and 2001 together. Population size were gained and analyzed for computing the population growth rate. According to what we concluded, in abandoned lands in given region of study the growth rate was positive and in other word, it increased and for other land uses this rate was negative together with negative increasing in all villages, therefore the population decreased. The villages of this region according to their magnitude of reduction in population growth and abandoned lands are: Gateh deh, Narian, Noviz oliya, Dizan, Jovestan, garab, Orazan, Nesa Bala, Mehran, Khachireh, Drapy. Thus, great number of settlers during these years migrated and the population decreased and following this trend, great area of rangelands (37.88%) which has already converted to rain-fed lands, has emerged in the form of abandoned lands in this region. In Gateh deh village, the area of rangelands had the maximum reduction and on the contrary, abandoned lands had the maximum amount of growth. Finally, it could be inferred that, there is a logical relationship between population growth and the area of abandoned lands.
