MAXENT model was used to evaluate the probability of Dorema ammoniacum development in rangelands of Southern Khorassan. Presence data of D. ammoniacum was recorded based on field survey and GPS application. Nine environmental information layers were used to model potential habitat of the understudy species. Relationship between species presence and environmental parameters was determined using maximum entropy. Map of species distribution was achieved. Results showed that the probability of D. ammoniacum is higher in regions with the following environmental characteristics; elevation of 1017-1933 m, average temperature of 13.96 to 15.17 ºC, average precipitation of 112- 131 mm, slope of 0-14% and LST range between -4 to 10 ºC. An AUC of 92 demonstrated that MAXENT is a suitable model for prediction of D. ammoniacum distribution and potential habitat.

The use of biochar as a soil amendment is one of the new methods to improve soil properties and increase plant yield. In this study, in order to evaluate the effect of adding natural biochar on soil properties and yield of Pamirian winterfat (Eurotia ceratoides) plant, an experiment in a completely randomized design were performed with 11 treatments by different levels of biochar (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10% by weight) and three replications in greenhouse conditions. After the end of the growing season, some physical and chemical properties of the soil (pH, EC, organic matter (%), lime, bulk deisty, particle density, and porosity percentage), germination percentage, and yield of E. ceratoides were measured. In all the studied traits of the soil (except for the particle density), and the characteristics of the E. ceratoides plant, the statistical difference between the various levels of biochar was significant (a = 0.01). Adding different levels of biochar increased pH, ECy, soil porosity percentage, soil organic matter, whereas decrased bulk density, lime percentage, clay percentage, sand, and silt.

Investigation of the effect of plant community on limited water resources of deserts is an important issue in water resources management. Different species of Haloxylon are compatible with desert condition and can use groundwater resources due to deep roots and proper structural condition. The purpose of this study was investigation of the effect of Haloxylon planted forests on groundwater resources in Jafarieh plain. For doing the study, at first the number of Haloxylon plants was determined in these forests using satellite images and JMicroVision software. Then using minimum water requirement of each plant, estimated with lysimeter, the number of surplus plants was determined based on their water requirement and rainfall of the region. Then groundwater level status was determined using GMS 8.3 software and MODFLOW model. The results showed that the number of Haloxylon plants in the study area was equal to 3746291 and the amount of groundwater evacuation by these plants was equal to 56.194 Mm3. The reduction of groundwater table was about 0.46 meter in the first study period (1992-2001) and 0.93 meter in the second study period (2002-2012) so that the reduction of groundwater level in the second study period was about 2 times bigger than the first study. This results showed that severe reduction of groundwater table has happened in recent decade because of planting Haloxylon. However the positive effects of these forests on reducing damages of dust storms should not be ignored.

Salvia limbata is an herbaceous plant which belongs to Lamiaceae family and is native to Iran. In this study, essential oils and variety of chemical compounds of Salvia limbata in flowering stage in different altitudes in July were studied. In order to study the active ingredients of plant in studied sites in flowering stage nine plant samples were examined for phytochemical analysis. Identification of the basic constituents (quantity and quality) with GC / MS and GC-FID (gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometer) has been done. The yield of essential oils in flowering stage in Paeein Taleghan 0.34% in Mian Taleghan 0.34% and in Bala Taleghan is 0.46%. According to the results, difference in altitudes in three habitats shows a significant difference among the percentages of the obtained compounds. The most important constituents of essential oil include α-Pinene, β-Pinene, allo-aromadendrene and Spathulonol. Also, Salvia is reported as one of the sources for the extraction of α -pinene.

Rrecently, rangeland multiple use has been found to be one of the primary solutions to alleviate livestock grazing pressure while improving stakeholder's welfare and per capita income and sustainable management and development. Beekeeping in rangeland as a profitable approach and one of multiple use components in upper Taleghan basin and Saman Orfi of Narian, Dizan and Mehran were studied. The present study was aimed to determine beekeeping suitability as well as ecological and social issues. According to permanent standards and resource sites priority for comprising of these Samans Orfi reserves 4 criteria to be considered such as vegetation,environmental, physical and social issues.These criteria are included overall 14 sub criteria. So Multi-Criteria Decision Making Methods (MCDM) has used because of problem complexity. The hierarchical formed in the 4 levels that is purpose, criteria, sub criteria and options. One of the criteria were qualitative. For accessing logical results, we benefit specialist cooperation. The results showed that social problem are more important than the other criteria in priority. Also, final results of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) indicated that Saman Orfi Narian, and Mehran and Dizin were fall into first to third priorities respectively.

Abstract In this study the effects and costs of application of two kinds of super absorbent polymer on the establishment and surviving of seedlings was investigated. Experiments were done in the field and on two kind of soil with different salinity (EC: 4.5 and 8 dsm-1). The results showed: the establishment rate of seedling in control was about 40 percent. The percentage of seedling establishment in the hydrogel treatments significantly increased and statistically is equal to the optimal surviving of the seedling (80%). Soil salinity on seedling establishment in the same treatments did not produce significant differences. The results were compared with a similar project to determine the costs and benefits. Based on the results a 30 percent reduction in water usage per round and 33 to 50 percent reduction in the number of irrigation replicate were recorded. The costs in compare to the normal project varied from -2 to 29 percent respectively for treatment Herbosorb® 0.5% and Aquasorb 1%. The treatments Herbosorb® and Aquasorb with usage level of 0.5% caused about 2.5 percent for each one percent increasing in the cost. There is no significant increase in the percentage of seedling survival by using 1% super-absorbent compared to 0.5 percent.

Fire consider as a factor and basic management in rangeland in order to reform of composition and biological diversity that use in rangeland ecosystems. This project was established to deal with the effect of fire in the research center for rangeland. Zagheh locale where is in 35 km of north eastern of Khoramabad with 1960 meters above sea level. The average comparison and analysis show that herbal forbs which use for grazing form density and average o canopy cover have significant difference at the level of %1 between fire and control area. (p < %1). This study shows that in short time, it is possible to replace perennial. The Prevailing type of grass such as Agropyron trichophorum - Bromus tomentellus and festuca ovina with annual grass like Bromus tectorum –Heteranthelium piliferum- Taeniatherum crinitum. These changes indicate perennial grasses and increased annual grasses in short time.

To find the effect of Atriplex canescens on soil chemical properties, two adjacent areas, each with and area of 1 ha, were selected in Hossein Abad Hapeshloo Shahryar. In one area it was planted Atriplex canescens in 2003 while the later one without Atriplex canescens was considered as control area. To sample soil, random- systematic method was used along 3 transects with a length of 100 m. In planting site transects were established perpendicularly on furrows were while in control site they were established parallel. Along each transect, 3 profiles were dug in initiate, medium and end points of each transect under shrubs and samples were taken from two depths (0- 30 cm and > 30 cm). Then, soil characteristics including texture, pH, Ec, Lime (CaCo3), ESP, organic mater (OM) and elements of Na, K, Ca, Mg and N were measured in laboratory. The results of this study showed that pH and Mg were significantly reduced in planting site compared of control. In addition, Na, Mg, Lime and Ca were significantly increased in planting site in comparison to control.
